Hi Class! Happy New Year! I hope. My name is Don, and this is my 3rd course in the pursuit of an associates degree in IT. I have no aspirations of starting a career. I'm 74 and retired, just seeking mental exercise in useful subjects. I was last taking college courses in 1969. Did you notice that it was a Fibonacci New Year? The date was 1-1-23.
I live in a 55+ community of 366 manufactured homes in southwest Florida. Two years ago, a group of 41 of us bought a 6-acre parcel of land at auction. It lies between our community and a highway, and we wanted it as a buffer and to protect it from development. Our owner's association could not bid because there was too little time to obtain the required approval of our owners. Our goal after buying it was to resell it to our association at cost when the community had time to officially vote on the matter. We felt altruistic in our effort. The land is wooded and a beautiful place to walk. As the time approached for our community to vote, it became apparent, that for reasons yet unknown, there was a significant effort to prevent the purchase. It was then our intention to convince the association members that buying it would be a good thing. Those against the purchase included the board of directors, their lawyer, and a few other activists. The vote failed. The causes included not just the cost of $615 per owner, but the spreading of false information by the board and its lawyer. Now we, the sellers, are contemplating how to undo the damage done and try again to obtain a positive vote from our community. The next thing that must be done is to convince the board that their lawyer used an incorrect statute and that they too made errors. My strategies will include correcting those errors without making the board look bad while minimizing conflicts. Obtaining legal interpretations to counter their lawyer seems like a good strategy. Better to lay blame on someone outside of our community. This is a present, on-going situation and I am confident of success.
